The Day before, the Day after 1. Creta Crete has two international airports, in Heraklion (HER) and Hania (CHQ). If you are visiting Gavdos, we recommend the Hania (Chania, Xania) airport. It is new and much closer to Sfakia -> Gavdos than Heraklion. Checking in and out is very quick, as there are not many planes arriving. Flight to Chania is more comfortable, easier and faster. Chania has a beautiful old Venetian harbor.

However there are 2 ways to arrive in Gavdos. Irrespective of the mode of transport or where are you coming from you will have to pass through Paleochora or Chora Sfakion.
The day before you travel to Gavdos it is advisable to check ferry connections. Please phone or visit directly Maria in SELINO-Travel Agency in Paleochora on the way to the harbor. You can take a bus from Chania Bus Station directly to Chora Sfakion or Paleohora and stay overnight. PALEOCHORA - Over night. In Paleochora there is a place where you can eat a nice vegetarian foot. One of the best vegetarian Restaurants in Greece. With a lot of different dishes from around the world. Go and look for "The third Eye - Vegetarian Restaurant" ask for Carline and Eftichis. If you have to stay over night in Paleochora look for Anonymous Homestay rooms and Studios. Visit www.anonymoushomestay.com for more information and prices. Chora Sfakion - Over night: In Chora Sfakion to find a quite place with nice view  over the beach and....food made in traditional way is not so easy. Go to Giannis restaurant over the beach. There you will find fresh made food and a quite place with nice view. As a customer from THE THREE BROTHERS TAVERN you can use for free Internet to check your emails. Its the only one Tavern with Internet access we know in Chora Sfakion.
Night in Sfakia you should spend in a special place. This place has a name  NOTOS SUITES. The only one color paint Hotel in Sfakia with a view over the old harbor and with a direct view to Gavdos. Suits are comfortable, large and the price is more then nice. Take the opportunity to have a suite ans swimming pool with a free view to the see.

Early in the morning do not have your breakfast short before your departure. It's not recommended. Before you catch your boat take your time doing your last shopping in the harbor. We have some suggestion for you at ADVICE.

In Chora Sfakion in the morning or ....just a minute before departure from Paleochora. Selino is no more in duty. This year Anendyk start in JULY from Paleochora goes to Chora Sfakion and to Gavdos in one trip. The ferry boat this year going to Gavdos is Samaria. Friendly and capable crew from SAMARIA is taking care about you.
....in the evening before departure ferry boat to Gavdos. Once a week. Not always for tourist! . 2008 - Ferry boat from Paleochora and Chora Sfakion 3! times a week (at the weekend) at the weekend and you have to make reservation. Additional post boat from Paleochora. From August there is no boat from Paleochora at "let say NORMAL" time. Post boat Sofia P stops at all and SAMARIA start at 7:00. So that means if this plans are real for tourist going from Paleochora to Gavdos will be hard to get that connection. No last shopping before departure to Gavdos. All shops are closed. More and more tourist will be directed to Chora Sfakion. For locals that means that a part of visitors will not show up on Gavdos and...that all business connection between Paleochora and Gavdos will be broken for that time. Let's see. Time will show us all we want to know. Have a nice swing. ;-) When the water is calm the dolphins or sperm whale will accompany you to Gavdos.

3. Gavdos Depending on the weather conditions surrounding Crete you will arrive more or less happy in Karave. Karave is the largest and only one build harbor on Gavdos Island similar in atmosphere to Amsterdam (just a joke) but a little bit smaller and a lot more sunny.

In August 2008 Karave from Gavdos is still one big construction site.
Gavdos has more then 3000 sunny hours a year. All the people waiting in the harbor are here because of you. Ok! Not all of them and not only because of you but … you will see.
